In 2027, the Kalkalpen National Park
will celebrate a special double anniversary:
30 years since its founding in 1997 and 10 years as part of the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site "Ancient and Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians and Other Regions of Europe."
Covering an area of around 209 km², the Kalkalpen National Park Sengsengebirge Reichraminger Hintergebirge protects Reichraminger Hintergebirge natural and forest wilderness areas of international importance. As an IUCN Category II protected area, Natura 2000 site, and Ramsar wetland, it has stood for consistent nature conservation in Upper Austria for almost three decades.
Numerous events and special program items are planned for the anniversary year 2027. Details to follow.
