Kalkalpen National Park Region
The Kalkalpen National Park is part of a network of stakeholders, regional actors and municipalities to preserve the natural heritage and develop the regional economy. Nature conservation and cultural landscape management can only be combined with sustainable value creation in the long term if representatives of different interests work together closely and in a spirit of trust. For this reason, cooperation in the form of collaborations, projects and joint strategies between representatives of nature conservation, environmental education, tourism and other regional stakeholders has been intensified since the national park was established.
The Kalkalpen National Park region covers an area of 1,301.18 km², has a population of 39,040 and is located in the districts of Steyr-Land and Kirchdorf/Krems. It is characterized by the three valleys that surround the national park: the Enns Valley in the east, the Windischgarsten Basin in the south and the Steyr Valley in the northwest.
The Kalkalpen National Park region consists of eight national park municipalities, which contributed land directly to the national park at the beginning of Kalkalpen National Park , and ten national park regional municipalities, which joined the framework agreement and thus the national park region by resolutions of the municipal councils and the provincial government.
