Bärenriedlau Hut - Open House Days

During the open house days, you'll have the rare opportunity to tour this historic hunting lodge as part of a guided tour!

For over 300 years, the Bärenriedlau Hut has stood in the Sengsengebirge , at an elevation of 1,334 meters above sea level. It provided lodging for herdsmen and hunters, and later even for the heir to the throne, Archduke Franz Ferdinand, and his hunting party. The impressive historic interior and pencil graffiti on the walls and doors still serve as reminders of that era. During the hut’s open house, a ranger will talk about the lifestyle of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and trace the transformation from the former imperial hunting grounds to today’s wildlife sanctuary in the Kalkalpen National Park .
