Equipment tips
and rules of conduct

Dear National Park visitor! Dear National Park visitor!

If you are out and about at Kalkalpen National Park , you should definitely take care of your equipment. You will be in alpine terrain in a north-facing dust situation - the weather can change quickly here. Please note that cell phone reception is often not available in the national park. Do not rely exclusively on digital apps.

We recommend the following hiking equipment for a relaxed nature experience:

  • Mountain boots, hiking boots, first aid kit
  • Rain protection and warm clothing
  • Sufficient provisions and drinks
  • Hiking map, possibly compass, GPS
  • Ferngals, cell phone, sun protection

Ideal companions

Hiking, cycling and ski tour maps are available at all Kalkalpen National Park visitor centers and in shops:

  • Kompass hiking, cycling and ski touring map no. 70 - Kalkalpen National Park 1:70,000
  • Hiking, cycling & ski touring map no. 401 Kalkalpen National Park 1:35,000 from CARTO.at (2 maps incl. panorama guides)

What you should know

Abandoned forest roads in the nature zone of the national park lead into primeval forest-like areas with very old, dying trees and dead wood. Falling trees and branches are typical hazards here.

Use at your own risk! Pay attention and leave the forest when it is windy!
