KALKALPEN NATIONAL PARK

Refreshing new look

Austria has six national parks as well as a number of smaller nature reserves and nature parks. So where at Kalkalpen National Park is what market experts call the "unique selling point"?

In a nutshell, the National Park has achieved a special international position as a "large-scale Alpine forest reserve" and as a "model rewilding area". It plays an outstanding key role in this. In addition to the high degree of naturalness of the area, the decisive factor for this is its natural features with over 80% forest cover and a variety of forest biotope types, which range in a mosaic from deciduous forests in the valleys to montane mixed forests to subalpine coniferous forests to the alpine krummholz zone. In 2017, 5,250 hectares of beech forest in the Kalkalpen National Park were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With these natural features, Kalkalpen National Park is unique among the 13 national parks in the Alps, more than two thirds of whose total area lies above the tree line. According to a survey supported by the Federal Ministry for Climate Action, the "Kalkalpen National Park" brand is held in very high esteem and is the second best known of the six Austrian national parks after the Hohe Tauern.

Logo Kalkalpen National Park

"In order to make the "Kalkalpen National Park" brand more attractive in terms of design after 25 years, we really stepped on the gas last year. We have further developed the National Park logo with elegance and sensitivity and prepared it for the new web-based applications," says National Park Director DI Josef Forstinger, pleased with the brand rebranding.
Together with our public relations and communications team, the design team from the "Gruppe am Park" agency in Linz created a gentle logo evolution. Intuitively, the refreshed national park logo now embodies the forest landscape of the Hinter- and Sengsengebirge mountains much better. The original overall look has been retained, but with a more naturalistic golden eagle, it has been implemented in a much more exciting way as "naturestyle branding". "The gentle evolution of our national park logo was important to us so that the old logo can remain alongside the refreshed logo for a while. This means that our highway, road and infrastructure signage does not have to be replaced immediately. This helps us to save costs. By carefully rebranding, we are not only preserving our brand value, but also raising it to iconic heights through our wilderness program," says Franz Sieghartsleitner, the responsible project manager.

The homepage also shines in the new national park look - www.kalkalpen.at.
With an extra portion of uniqueness, new features and more powerful images, the new design line is also implemented on the web without losing any of the information content. With simplified menu navigation, users can access information from the knowledge database, book events online and geodata about the protected area is made available in the WebGIS. As part of Outdooractive, Kalkalpen National Park provides information on hiking, cycling and riding trails, huts, mountain pastures and national park theme trails for free download. Any trail and road closures as well as information on unusual incidents in the area are published promptly.
