Biologists Christine Sonvilla and Marc Graf are photographers and nature filmmakers. They have been tracking the lynx for years and have hiked and filmed on the Luchs Trail. They start in Reichraming in the Upper Austrian Limestone Alps in the fall and hike in several daily stages to the Laussabaueralm and over the Haller Mauern to Admont. In spring, Christine continues the trail alone through the Gesäuse National Park and is finally accompanied by skiing legend Kathrin Zettel on the last stretch from the Salza to the summit of the Dürrenstein and the Lunzersee in summer.

Starting from the lynx population support project in the Kalkalpen National Park, young lynx migrated from there to the Gesäuse, and two lynx have already been detected in the Dürrenstein-Lassingtal wilderness area. These observations confirm the suitability of the cultural and forest landscape between the protected areas as an ecological nature corridor. As an umbrella species, the lynx has thus become a symbol of natural connectivity in the Eisenwurzen. As protected areas, we work to raise awareness of the outstanding natural treasures of our region, because people only protect what they know and appreciate. In cooperation with the alpine clubs and tourism associations, we have therefore set up a lead hiking trail that connects our three large protected areas in eleven daily stages in order to make the topic of connectivity an active experience. The lynx lends its name to this long-distance hiking trail.

The Servus TV Bergwelten documentary delves into the nature on and around the varied long-distance hiking trail and goes in search of Austria's alpine lynxes and the value of this mountain wilderness.
