Multi-day tours enable particularly intensive experiences of nature
Our suggestions for multi-day tours in the Kalkalpen National Park require a good basic level of fitness, surefootedness and suitable equipment. The Kalkalpen National Park is located in the northern part of the region, so the weather can change quickly here. Our recommendation - check the weather forecast and reserve a place to sleep in advance, as the huts are fully booked on some days.
Lynx Trail
Hiking where the lynx live. This long-distance hiking trail connects three internationally recognized large protected areas in Austria on 11 stages: the Kalkalpen National Park, the Gesäuse National Park and the Dürrenstein-Lassingtal wilderness area. This means that the Luchs Trail not only leads through three federal states, but also through the largest contiguous forest area in the country. It is probably the largest near-natural forest area in Central Europe, but certainly one of its last wilderness bastions.
If you want to hike the Luchs Trail on your own and without using additional services such as booking services and luggage transport, you should definitely reserve your desired accommodation in advance. Camping and bivouacking is only permitted at signposted camping and bivouac sites.
Book the Lynx Trail in a package
If you can't spare a full 11 days or don't feel up to one or two stages, you can have the long-distance trail tailored to your own needs with the support of Trail Angels and arrange the stages variably.
The Trail Angels not only help you plan your long-distance hike, they also offer practical services such as a luggage service and the collective booking of accommodation along the trail. This means that you can tackle the challenging stages with little ballast on your back, as your luggage will be waiting for you at your booked accommodation in the evening. On almost every stage, the Trail Angels offer selected partner businesses in different categories. Whether hotel, inn or hut - you can stay in the accommodation of your choice.
