On the trail of the lynx - research tour

On this exclusive tour, you will accompany lynx researcher Christian Fuxjäger into the national park and learn the latest news about the lynx population and the lifestyle of the large, shy forest cat with the striking "brush ears". Perhaps you will discover wild animal tracks or even traces of the lynx.

The Kalkalpen National Park region plays a key role in the recolonization of the lynx in the Alps. The first photo trap photo was taken in the national park in 2000, and in the years that followed there were regular records of lynx in the area, albeit always of the same animal. Since then, a total of six wild lynx have been relocated to Kalkalpen National Park to support the population. From 2012, there were lynx cubs in the Kalkalpen National Park region for the first time in over 150 years. However, there was also evidence of illegal shooting and the poachers were convicted in court. The lack of lynx offspring in recent years jeopardizes the repopulation.
